As Michael mentioned in his post, “Staying on the Road by Working,” Australia is a great place for students, backpackers and working holiday-makers to find jobs, especially in bars. I lucked out with a job at the bar of a five-star hotel, so it came with lots of perks, but you could have just as much fun at a simple country pub. If you’re interested in bartending in Australia, here are a few things you should know before you go.

A dilapidated old barn sits on the corner of the Princes Highway, which has become the visual landmark for the road to solitude. Driving through Murramarang National Park toward South Durras, you feel the stress melting away and the anticipation of what must come at the end of this breathtaking road. Solitude. Relaxation. Peace. Long stretches of thick, white sand encasing your ankles like cake batter. Crisp, salty water tingling at your toes. The fragrance of eucalyptus trees intoxicating your mind. Lorikeets conversing, as if you weren’t there.

Europe has great sculptures, it goes along with the centuries-old buildings, spectacular fountains and plazas which have seen so much history. Wellington – well except for the, odd, ugly Victorian statue of long-deal Important People, not so much.

So when the local council decided to add some more interesting items to its streetscape – it had to build them. Here’s some of the more unusual ones – there’s actually over twenty. Wellington has a compact central city, you can walk from one end to the city to the other within about an hour – but it would actually take several days of good weather to tick all of these off! All of these can be found between Courtney Place and the Railway Station.

Stepping out of the airplane and onto the warm tarmac, arrival in Rarotonga is a relaxed affair. There’s a tiny terminal ahead, containing a man strumming a ukulele in welcome, with the sweet floral smell of hibiscus and tropical humidity in the air.

When two seats opened up at the small table to our left, I nearly shoved the previous occupants out of the way to duck under the umbrella canopy and slide sideways into the wicker chairs. It was shoulder-to-shoulder, elbow-to-elbow amidst the packed tables in the narrow laneway, and the competition was intense for some of Melbourne’s finest coffee, and by that measure, some of the finest in the whole southern hemisphere.

I love Melbourne. In fact, so much that it’s my favorite city in Australia. It’s got a great vibe to it and the music scene is very much alive.

Here’s a video by Adrienne of ShenVenture featuring a glimpse of the city of Melbourne and Phillip Island.

This is her first travel video and for her first one, I think she’s on the right track. It was filmed with a DSLR camera and the music was selected after the community Art of Travel Blogging suggested a few sites to get royalty free music for her videos.

Nugget Point is one of the most iconic landforms on the Otago coast. Located at the northern end of the Catlins coast down the road from Kaka Point, this steep headland has a lighthouse at its tip, surrounded by rocky islets (The Nuggets). The point is home to many seabirds, including penguins, gannets and spoonbills, [...]

Milford Sound is a fjord in the south west of New Zealand’s South Island, within Fiordland National Park and the Te Wahipounamu World Heritage site. It has been judged the world’s top travel destination in an international survey and is acclaimed as New Zealand’s most famous tourist destination. Rudyard Kipling had previously called it the eighth Wonder of the World.

Northern New Zealand has a beach called Ninety Mile Beach stretching from west of Kaitaia towards Cape Reinga along the Aupouri Peninsula. Funny thing is, it’s actually 55 miles (88 Kilometers) long and no one knows why it’s called Ninety Mile Beach. Today’s video is of a group that drove the stretch. It’s a little long at 7:39 minutes and is repetitive throughout the video but somehow still caught my attention to watch the entire thing. The views into the open sea and being surrounded by the emptiness of the sand look beautiful. I’m adding this to my wish list.
