Montreal International Fireworks Competition

on in Activities, Canada, North America

Every year during the summer in Montreal, the international fireworks competition takes over the skies. It’s a weekly event hosting firework shows synchronized with music from different countries around the world. The show is known to be one of the worlds biggest and best fireworks competition.

Also known as L’International des Feux Loto-Québec, has been running since 1985. I was told by a tour operator in Montreal that when they were looking for a spot to host the firework competition, it was difficult to find a location. All the cities in North America kept denying them because of safety and interests. I bet now they wish they took up the offer hosting over 3 million people each year and blasting over 6,000 fireworks.

Pyromusical synchronization is an art form that can only be mastered through experience. The firms that participate in the Competition possess the skills required to distinguish themselves at the summit of the pyromusical arts. The fireworks makers who design the 30-minute pyromusical displays are more than just pyrotechnicians; they are artistic innovators. - Art – Technique

The best place to watch the fireworks is at La Ronda amusement park. The show is directly in front of you and there’s seating. You can also watch the show on Jacques Cartier Bridge which is closed off just for the show.

I went during team USA’s show and they ended up winning the gold Jupiter trophy. Their theme was synchronizing symphonic classical rock music with the classic film Fantasia. 8 other countries competed with Portugal winning silver and Italy winning bronze.
