Packing light is the key to backpacking. The less you have, the easier you can jump from one destination to another and the less weight on your back. It’s just all around better to have less. But you still need to carry the things that are important.
Volunteer work, like taking tours, is more expensive the further away it is arranged. As with Volunteering in Central America the southern American continent offers backpackers plenty of opportunities to hook up with worthwhile grassroots organisations.
The partying goes on everyday and year-round in these towns and their popular among backpackers because it’s cheap to party compared to home. You can party as much as your body can handle and likely get away with things that you can’t do at home. No one will stop you as long as you have money. These towns are great for serious partyers.

December has been a busy month. We’ve been traveling through Ecuador starting in Quito by partying, climbing Cotopaxi, enjoying the hot-springs of Baños, and finally settling in Montañita for three weeks to celebrate Christmas and new years on the beach.
Here’s episode two of our Travel Talk series. We decided to do something different with this one and asked other people in the hostel for tips. We were staying in Quito, Ecuador at the Secret Garden Hostel. The hostel had a beautiful view of the city. We enjoyed it so much that we stayed for a week and a half to celebrate one of Ecuador’s biggest holidays.
