Organizing a hunting trip is an extremely exciting event. However, if you fail to pack the right items, your trip can be significantly impacted for the worst. When you’re away for hours or even days in the wilderness, it’s essential that you have the right things on hand.
Whether you’re an avid and experienced hunter or a new one, it never hurts to have as many tips as possible under your belt. Take a look at some of the most important things that you should ensure you bring when going on a hunting trip.
Your Firearm
It goes without saying that you’re probably going to need a firearm for hunting. It’s important that you carry all of the necessary items for it. When using a gun, it’s important that you carry it with extreme caution and always treat it as if it’s loaded. In addition to your firearm, it’s also important that you bring extra ammo.
One of the worst things you can do on a hunting trip is to find yourself without enough ammunition. You might as well just turn around and go home.
Water
Anytime that you’re going deeper into nature, one of the most important things that you should have on hand is water. Water is one of the most critical survival items and arguably the most important.
When packing your bag, it’s important that you save the majority of your backpack weight for your water bottle. You may want to consider buying a collapsible water bottle so that when it’s empty, you can make room in your bag for other items.
Flashlight
A flashlight is always a good idea anytime that you’re away from a well-lit area. Ideally, your flashlight should have multiple settings in the event of an emergency. For example, a strobe setting is important if you’re trying to get the attention of someone to help. Always make sure to bring extra batteries for backup.
Food
Water isn’t the only thing that your body needs for survival. You should also make sure that you pack plenty of food so that you are well-nourished.
Ideally, you should pack food that will not spoil in your bag. Things like dried nuts, or freeze-dried food is the best way to ensure that you’ll have something to eat without worrying about it going off in warmer temperatures.
Knife
Any good hunter knows the importance of carrying around a knife. A good knife will ensure that you always have something on hand in a pinch. Whether you’re cutting through brush or your game, a good blade is important to make sure that you can cut through whatever it is that you need to.
