You’ve waited a year for this. Maybe last year’s vacation plans got cancelled. Or maybe you did venture out but your vacation wasn’t all you expected it to be due to the pandemic. If you’re planning a post pandemic vacation now, you’re likely ready to go all in. Shutdowns and restrictions have most people a little anxious to let the fun begin again and to go exploring. If this is you, here are some things to think about when planning a post pandemic vacation.
Packing Plans
It’s never too early to start packing. While you might still be locked down, there’s nothing wrong with using this time to pack your bags for that trip you’re excited about. Not only will it give you the push you need to clean out that closet or those drawers, but it will help you remember what you have, too.
Necklaces and other statement pieces are things you’ll want to think about when packing. Where you would have thrown masks in a bag before, now is the time to pull those old accessories back out and think about fashion. If you’re like most people, you’ve spent months in sweat pants and haven’t even bothered with make up. Now’s the time to think about how you’ll put on your best face for the outside world again.
When packing, also think about things you’ll again be able to do that might require extra clothing or thinking. Strapless dresses for a night out on the town mean you’ll need your best strapless or wireless bra. While it might seem obvious, try packing now and you’ll see how rusty you are at planning to leave the house. Making a checklist will help. When in doubt, think about clothes you can layer for all types of events and weather.
Travel Agents & Options
If you need help to plan an amazing vacation after the pandemic ends, give your local travel agent a call. The tourism industry has been hit hard and they will be more than happy to help. Many will know of fantastic discounts and can suggest destinations you may not otherwise have thought about. Stay open minded about off season travel, lesser known destinations, and even accommodations. Because of the pandemic, there are new options out there you may not have considered before. Your travel agent will be able to work with you to explore ideas.
Planning for Changes
Even when the pandemic is over, it will take time for many industries to recover. For this reason, it will be smart to call ahead of time to make sure any ‘must see’ on your list is still open and to confirm their hours. Flexibility will be key in not being disappointed and making the most of your post pandemic travels. Keep in mind, as you step out into a new normal, that the world may look different than you remembered. Taking it slow with daily plans and setting a moderate paced social agenda will help in a successful trip, too. While being excited for a new adventure is good, it can be overwhelming to jump back in without dipping your toes in first.
Bucket Lists
While planning your post pandemic trip, be sure to write a list of things you hope to do. Going in with some sort of a plan and a bucket list will help not only with vacation anticipation, but making the most of the time you’ve dreamed about for so long. Remember to pack your camera, a journal and writing instrument so you can capture the memories you’ll treasure after such an unconventional year. Make a vow to unplug from social media and remote work the day you set out on your adventure. You can come back to those things later. Being present in the moment with a digital detox when your trip finally comes will be step one in making the wait worth it. Happy travels to you! Have an amazing adventure.
